Alison Krauss - Bluegrass on the Tube

Here's another favourite of mine, Alison Krauss & Union Station performing live on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

This video came from a collection of videos sitting on the web under the banner of Bluegrass on the Tube. An amazing repository of bluegrass videos dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of bluegrass music both past and present.

If you haven't subscribed to it I'd recommend you do it's free. You'll get a new video link each day and you'll unearth some amazing footage of times past.

IIIrd Tyme Out

I have been a fan of this group for many years. With the release of some of their music on YouTube I thought it was tyme to share them with you all.

One of my favourite groups is IIIrd Tyme Out.

I have many of their albums and was fortunate enough to catchup with them at a festival in Chattanooga on my last trip to the USA.

Russel Moore, the groups lead singer, has one of the most amazing voices around - in my view - which is ably supported by the rest of the band.

Take some time to visit their website and checkout some of their YouTube offerings. I'm sure you'll agree - they are a hot bluegrass band.

Bluegrass History

Here is a video of 7-year old Ricky Skaggs performing Foggy Mountain Special on the Martha White with Flatt and Scruggs.

While no mention is made of the year, we know that Skaggs was born in July 1954 and at 7 years old, this would put the event at around 1961.

Ever wondered how to get your start in bluegrass. Just walk up on stage with your instrument next time your favourite bluegrass band is in town and say you wanna pick. Of course having a great deal of talent also counts for something.

Hope you enjoy.

How to Play Wedding Gigs

Many of us at some stage in our musical endeavours have been asked to play the odd wedding gig. Here's some great advice from Partic Francis in Acoustic Guitar Notes.

Whether you're considering playing a wedding as a source of income or as a favor for a friend or family member, it helps to think about a range of considerations unique to this kind of gig. Here are a few tips to help you contribute music to someone's special day:

For many pro musicians, playing weddings provides a major part of their income. Even amateur performers are likely to find themselves asked to play at a friend’s or relative’s special day. Anyone considering doing wedding gigs should be aware of the unique challenges involved and understand that each situation will differ from the last. Here are some basic rules to follow:
